KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Health Dr Saghir Ahmed has declared emergency at every hospital and health care unit managed by the provincial government during Muharram.Chairing a meeting of medical superintendents and executive district officers (EDOs-health) in his office on Wednesday, he also ordered that accidents and casualty department of every government owned facility must remain functional round the clock.“Arrangements for every needed medicine and medical support along with doctors, nurses, paramedics and technicians must also ensured,” he elaborated.Dr Saghir said due availability of man power and other needed resources must particularly be ensured during the eve of Ashura, from Muharram 8 to Muharram 10.He directed the medical superintendents of Sindh government hospitals and other relevant centers to provide him with the duty schedule of doctors and other personnel at their respective institutions. medical camps at Numaish Chowrngi in Karachi and at the routes of processions during the three crucial days so as to provide needed assistance on immediate basis.“Each of these camps must be manned by a doctor and a paramedic,” he said asking the EDOs-health to ensure that the two member teams are assigned duties on rotational basis at the camps.He also asked for activation and close coordination between central control room in Karachi and district control rooms in the province.The minister advised the EDO-Karachi and town health officers to be in close contact with the organisers of various processions, congregations and other relevant events so as to facilitate the mourners.The minister said that secretary for health, special secretary for health, additional secretary for health and deputy secretary will be assigned to pay surprise visits to the hospitals and camps.On the occasion he also reviewed arrangements being made at Civil Hospital Karachi and directed mandatory presence of surgeons and serious doctors associated with neuro-surgery, thoracic, maxillofacial, and general surgery to facilitate people in need.The minister discussed in detail the arrangements of hospitals at Sukkur, Hyderabad, Nawabshah and Larkana.Special Secretary to Health Seema Najeeb, Consultant to Health Department Dr Abdul Majid and EDO-Health Dr Nasir Javed also attended the meeting – Dailytimes
