Renowned photographer Shelley Pirzada recently displayed her new collection of photographs with the theme of ‘Destiny’ at the Chawkandi Art Gallery. The subject of her collection was based on landscapes in Karachi and her ideas portrayed a sense of innovativeness and individuality, yet being contemporary by using light as a source of inspiration. In a conversation with Daily Times, Pirzada said, “I have been living in Karachi for the last 22 years and I have tried to explore Karachi in my photography.” Describing her attachment to photography, the enthusiastic photographer said she chose artistic photography to fulfil her thirst of art and to satisfy the creative demand of her soul. “I am trying my level best to promote photography in Pakistan,” she said.
Talking about the prospect of photography, she said photography had become a primary form of art in galleries worldwide and it is also developing well in Pakistan. “However, commercial viability of photography has slowed down its artistic growth,” she regretted. Born in India, Pirzada did her postgraduate diploma in photojournalism from London and has worked with many photographers and magazines of international repute. photos by liaquatullah khan – Dailytimes
