ISLAMABAD: Final trials of Pakistan sitting volleyball (women), goal-ball (men) and athletics concluded here Thursday at Pakistan Sports Complex.The squad for Asian Paralympics Games to be held in China from December 12 was later announced after the trials.National coach for Pakistani Paralympics squad, Akbar Ali Mughal told APP that final trials for Paralympics have been completed and fourteen athletes from different disciplines, six each for men-blind goal-ball team and women sitting volleyball have been selected.Mughal, who is also founder of women sitting volleyball team expressed hope that he is expecting good results from the event and his players are very motivated in their respective games.He said, “Although Pakistan is participating in the event first time in Paralympics with two new teams of sitting volleyball and goal-ball, but we have worked very hard to overcome our weaknesses.
“We have made them undergo training on a special designed court as the same will be provided in China and we make these blind teams spend most of their time on the court as practice makes them perfect,” Mughal added.He further explained that, besides imparting training to women sitting volleyball team, we also made them see video’s of various events so that they can also visualise those particular scenes. “With the help of videos, we are able to show the girls to be strong in defence by sitting at their respective positions because our sitting team did not play any match on domestic or international level and are going to join a mega event straight away.“As we are new in the event so we cannot take any chances as our main concern is to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, and for that we need to participate in Asian Paralympics Games as per set criteria,” he concluded.The selected athletes and the two teams for the event are:Paralympics Athletics Squad for Men’s Events: Muhammad Shoaib (100m, 200m, long jump), Haider Ali (100m, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump), Mudassar Baig (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay), Asghar Ali (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, shot put), Faisal Younas (100m, discus throw, javelin throw), Muhammad Awais (100m, javelin throw, long jump), Imranullah (100m, 200m, long jump), Raheel Anwar (100m, 200m and 4×100 relay), Mubashir Hussain (100m, 200m, long jump), Khurram Shehzad (100m-200m and long jump), Muhammad Ijaz (100m, discus throw, shot put), Hazrat Wali (100m, discus throw, javelin throw), Qazi Zeeshan Gul (100m, 400m, shot put).
