ISLAMABAD: No country can progress without its most precious human resource that is the teacher, who inspires his/ her students and motivates them to have dreams and then turns their dreams into reality, said South Asian Strategic Stability Institute’s (SASSI) Director General Maria Sultan on Tuesday.She was addressing at the closing ceremony of Roots National Olympiad 2010 as the Chief Guest.She appreciated the efforts of Roots School System’s (RSS) management and faculty that has been a driving force for the institution’s success and setting precedence in education sector by producing world-class results. She drew the attention of audience towards emerging challenges for the youth.“Roots School’s achievements have raised our heads in pride and has further strengthened my belief in the tremendous potential of our young generation who indeed are the leaders of tomorrow’s Pakistan, Sultan said.
“New education policy has been announced and we are introducing reforms to bring in qualitative change so as to raise the standard of education at par with international standards. We plan to achieve universalisation of primary education by the year 2015,” she added.RSS Director Faisal Mushtaq said, “We are committed to improve the educational experience of our students and with this in mind; we came up with the idea of holding Roots Olympiad to stimulate interactive learning among the youth.” Students are provided numerous exciting opportunities to display their abilities and skills and to think both critically and creatively, he added.He said Roots Olympiad was a mega event that left them spellbound.
Today, Olympiads are globally acknowledged to play a pivotal role in aspiring the youth to go beyond the boundaries of classroom learning and allowing them to assimilate knowledge and innovation into a single unit, he maintained. Such competitions not only test an individual’s thinking skills but also test ability to blend in with a group of people with diversified interests, said Mushtaq.Over 1,000 students from various schools, colleges and universities including Saint Mary’s Academy, Lahore Grammar, Westminster College, The City School, Imperial International, Sheikh Zayed International Academy, ACE International Academy, Bahria College and Roots College International DHA & Roots College Satellite Town campuses were present at the closing ceremony.At the end awards were distributed among the winners and formally closing of Olympiad was announced with the pledge to come together with the same enthusiasm and spirit next year – Dailytimes
