KARACHI : Vice Admiral Abbas Raza has taken over as Commander Pakistan Fleet on Monday. In capacity of Fleet Commander, he would exercise full operational control over all Fleet Units comprising Destroyers, Submarines, Missile Boats and Naval Air Arm besides other supporting establishments.Vice Admiral Abbas Raza joined Pakistan Navy in 1973 and was commissioned in the Operations Branch. He has served on various Command and Staff appointments including Deputy Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Commanding Officer of two Type-21 Frigates, Commander Auxiliary and Mine Warfare Squadron, Principal Secretary to Chief of the Naval Staff, Naval Attache in France, Director General Joint Warfare and Training and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects). Before assuming the charge of Commander Pakistan Fleet, the Admiral was serving as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations).
Vice Admiral Abbas Raza has specialized in Naval Communications. He did his Staff Course from Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, UK, and National Defence Course from National Defence University Islamabad. In recognition to his meritorious services, the admiral has been decorated with Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).The change of command ceremony was held at Pakistan Navy Dockyard this morning where the outgoing Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz formally handed over the command to the newly appointed Fleet Commander.On arrival at the venue, Vice Admiral Abbas Raza was presented guard of honour and introduced to the officers of his Command.
