LAHORE: Taimur Hassan of Pakistan has emerged as the top senior amateur golf champion of Asia Pacific by virtue of his outstanding performance in the Asia Pacific Senior Amateur Golf Championship 2010 held at the Bangkok Golf Club from November 24 to 26.During the three rounds of this championship, Taimur carded rounds of 66, 72 and 77 with an aggregate score of 215, striking the ball well and thereby keeping his strong opponents from India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand at bay.The runner-up in this championship was Vijay Bhadana of India who ended up three strokes behind Taimur. Murray of New Zealand was third with an aggregate score of 223 and Grey Corban of Australia managed the fourth slot, his aggregate score for three rounds being 226.
Speaking over the phone Taimur was nostalgic about this victory and stated that he had won the Asia Pacific Nomura Cup Amateur Title way back in 1977 as a youngster and now he was much delighted about bringing glory to his country once again, though as a senior.This golf championship is hosted by Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), a body that represents national golf associations throughout the Asia Pacific geographic footprint. APGC is home to 28 national golf associations from the region.Along with the individual event a team championship was also held and Australia won the team event with an overall team score of 902 followed by New Zealand at 905 and India at 910.
