95 pc flood affectees receive relief assistance: Shahbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that distribution of Watan Cards among the flood affectees has almost been completed and 95 percent calamity-stricken people have received relief assistance through this transparent process. He said that provision of free fertilizers and seeds to the farmers of flood-hit areas will also be completed by November 30.According to press release, he directed to accelerate distribution of quilts, blankets and warm clothes among the affectees and said that philanthropists and affluent persons should play an active role in this noble cause.

He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding construction of model villages in the flood-hit areas, distribution of Watan Cards and provision of free fertilizers, seeds and quilts, blankets and warm clothe to the flood victims, here today. Senator Parvaiz Rashid, Members National Assembly Afzal Khokhar, Arshad Leghari, Members Provincial Assembly Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Agriculture, Housing, Information, Chief Executive Officer Punjab Rural Support Programme and Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority were present. The Chief Minister commended the role of elected representatives and administration in making excellent arrangements and adopting a transparent mechanism for the distribution of Watan Cards among the flood affectees.

He said that provision of Watan Card to every calamity-stricken person has been ensured and 30th November has been set as the deadline for the completion of this process. However, he said, this date should be extended by 15 days to address any complaint in this regard. He said that elected representatives who took part in the relief and rehabilitation work of the flood-hit people should visit the affected areas and address any complaint regarding provision of Watan Card to any deserving person with the cooperation of concerned administration.He said that due to fast changing weather, distribution of warm clothes, blankets and quilts among the affectees should be given top priority and the campaign for the collection of warm clothes should also be expedited.Chief Sercretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa, Senior Member Board of Revenue Akhlaq Ahmad Tarrar, Secretary Agriculture Capt.® Arif Nadeem and Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Khalid Sherdil gave a detailed briefing regarding distribution of Watan Cards, free seeds and fertilizers as well as quilts and blankets – Onlinenews
