Meeting discusses matters about issuance of Watan Cards in Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that reasonable progress has been made in resettlement work after rescue and relief of the flood victims.The Sindh CM said this while attending a high-level meeting along with Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik at the CM House here, according to a statement issued here on Sunday.The meeting held detailed deliberations on matters related to the issuance of Watan Cards to the flood victims in Sindh province.Speaking on the occasion, the Sindh CM said the government decided to issue Watan Cards to flood victims on advice of President Asif Ali Zardari.

The relief amount being provided through Watan Card to the flood victims, is being transferred through a bank account, he said.The Sindh CM added flood affected are being provided Rs 20,000 each in the initial phase while further Rs 80,000 each will be given later.He noted that Watan Card will only be issued to those whose houses had been partially or completely damaged in the flood.Those who sustained no loss in the flood, will not be issued Watan Card, he said.Addressing the meeting, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have directed that the process to issue Watan Cards to flood victims in Sindh be completed as soon as possible.

He said if any staff member of NADRA is found involved in corruption in the process of issuing Watan Card, strict action will be taken in this regard.The meeting decided that the Sindh CM will preside over another meeting after 15 days to review  progress on the process to issue Watan Cards.The participants of the meeting also  called for  effective coordination among districts administration and  NADRA.They also expressed the hope that the process of Watan Cards issuance will be completed soon in the light of directions of the President and the Prime Minister.The meeting was apprised  that total 495,401 new Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC), have been issued from August 2010 to November 2010.Earlier, Sindh Chief Secretary, Ghulam Ali Pasha briefed the meeting about details of issuance of Watan Cards in Sindh.Among other notables, Chairman NADRA, Ali Arshad Hakeem, Additional Secretary Interior, Shahid Hamid, Advisor to Sindh CM for Information, Ms. Sharmila Farooqui, NADRA officials, Secretary to Sindh CM, Abdul Kabeer Qazi and DCOs of different districts were also present – App
