Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to appear before the accountability court today (Monday) in connection with three references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the Sharif family. Nawaz Sharif appeared before accountability court for the second time during which Justice Mohammad Bashir heard the references pertaining to London flats, Nelson, Nescom, Hill Metal and Azizia Steel Mills.

The NAB prosecutor told the court that Nawaz Sharif’s children are deliberately skipping the hearing as their arrest warrants were sent to the London authorities. He further requested to issue their non-bailable arrest warrants. Ahead of the hearing, several Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Talal Chaudhry, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Federal Minster for Railways Saad Rafique, Pervez Rashid, Asif Kirmani and Hanif Abbasi were stopped at court’s gate while Maiza Hameed and Daniyal Chaudhry were allowed to participate in the hearing.

Journalists were also barred from entering the court.During the previous hearing the accountability court had issued bailable arrest warrants for Nawaz Sharif s children, Hussain, Hassan and Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar after they failed to appear before it despite repeated summons.In case of skipping today’s hearing the NAB will request the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrants for Hussain, Hassan and Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar.
