Action ordered in Watan Cards distribution fraud

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered immediate recovery of illegally issued Watan Cards and action against their undeserving recipients and the officials who facilitated this crime.It also directed for review of registered, unregistered and rejected people`s lists concerning the issuance of Watan Cards for ensuring transparency in the process.These directives were issued at a high-level meeting chaired by information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain here on Wednesday.He also asked for re-verification of the issued Watan Cards before payment of the remaining compensation amount.The meeting was also attended by provincial ministers Liaquat Shabab and Pervez Khattak, MPAs Abdul Basir Khattak and Pervez Khan and Nowshera DCO Zakaullah Khattak.The participants discussed issues relating to rehabilitation of flood-stricken people and complaints about Watan Cards issuance.The meeting also ordered detailed survey of all the declared calamity-hit areas.It also directed the law-enforcement agencies to take action against all those who had been receiving bribes and issuing Watan Cards and Benazir Income Support Programme forms to undeserving people.The meeting asked all the NGOs to coordinate with the officials of relevant district administrations before starting their activities so as to avoid duplication of relief work.

It was also decided that monthly meetings of elected representatives of Nowshera district would be held till rehabilitation of the affected people.The information minister said that the elements who were defaming the government through Watan Cards corruption would be dealt with harshly.Mr Hussain asked the NADRA authorities to provide lists of deserving people for Watan Cards to the district administrations before issuance of these cards so as to ensure transparency.He called upon all philanthropists and NGOs to help provide blankets, quilts, shawls and warm clothes to the flood-stricken people, as it was their immediate need in the winter season – Dawan
